Float Cum Boost Battery Charger

Float Cum Boost Battery Charger

01

Battery Charger, when used in stand by application is not a standalone dedicated Battery Charger. In standby application a Battery charger along with a floating Battery provide uninterrupted DC power supply to a critical DC load. This is Float-cum-boost battery charger or FCBC feeds the critical load without any break and also charges the discharged battery.

SMPS Battery Charger

SMPS Battery Charger

03

SMPS Battery Charger • A typical Switched Mode Power Supply incorporates a frontend AC-DC rectifier to generate an unregulated DC input voltage. • High power & high frequency MOSFETs/IGBTs then switches ON/OFF the unregulated input DC Voltage at a very high frequency (say 80Khz) at the primary of a ferrite transformer. • This high frequency ferrite transformer isolates, steps down and converts this square wave DC to square wave AC output. • It is then rectified & filtered to generate a smooth ripple free output DC voltage. • Pulse Width Modulation technique is generally employed to regulate the SMPS output.
